NOUN Nursing students at ESUTH drilled by OSCE Examiner

The BSC nursing of the national open university of Nigeria (NOUN), have been questioned on the essence of objectivity structured clincal examination (OSCE) at the Enugu state teaching hospital (ESUTH), parklane, Enugu, Enugu state.

The examiner, a representative of nursing department ,agbo darlingson anibe, said OSCE is basically a standard way of assessing and training nursing students on clinical posting.

Anibe, while saying that the exercise ensures Nursing students are assessed to see they can be able to carry out clinical procedures with use of models, also said it is a pilot study to see how best it can be added into the system of the institution

 he stated" we cannot train our nursing students differently of we must meet the current trending standards in nursing profession. If we do different things, it's looks faulty and shabby

According to Anibe, preceptors who are well versed, enhanced and knowledgeable in nursing practice, were expected to set exam questions, monitored, and ensured standard are kept maintained.

   The deputy director, Nursing services and lead preceptors, ESUTH, Mrs. Egwu florance c said "OSCE is a school based examination whereby nursing students use modela to demonstrate clinical procedures and answer some structured questions based on procedures and practicals they have carried out adding that the are scored immediately done with

She also said that the system has been approved by the Nigerian council of nursing as a trend approach of training training nursing students in all universities

The nursing students who participated were drawn from tu trio of Enugu, OPI and Awgu centers, as 53,16 and 3 students respectively
